Viking Regiment
The Viking Regiment is West High School's Marching Band

Competing in in-town and out-of-town competitions, the Viking Regiment is proud to be the sound of West High School.

After the Marching Band Competition season is over, you can catch the Viking Regiment at Parades and Festivals; find out when in our CALENDAR!
Color Guard/Winter Guard
The Color Guard performs choreographed dances and routines with various equipment to enhance and interpret the music of the Viking Regiment.

Once the Marching Band Season is over, during the winter, the Color Guard performs in the Winter Guard International (WGI) and Pep and Pageantry Arts Association of Center California (PPAACC) circuits.

Equipment includes: Flags, Rifles, Sabres, etc...
Drumline/Indoor Percussion
The Drumline is the heartbeat and soul of the Viking Regiment.

Consisting of various percussion instruments, the Drumline assists the Marching Band and Color Guard in maintaining tempo.

After Marching Band Season concludes, Indoor Drumline begins; competing in Bakersfield's PPAACC circuit.

Erin Wander

Band Director

Ms. Erin Wander moved from Virginia to Bakersfield after being hired to be the Director of Bands and Orchestra at West High School. This is Ms. Wander's fourth year as the director at West, and 6th year being a professional music educator.

The Viking Regiment Instrumental Program is full of Viking Pride with a tradition of excellence. Those interested in joining, please email Ms. Wander.

Johnny Monroe

Color Guard - Caption Head

Johnny started his musical career in 1996 and dance career in 1998, eventually graduating from East HS in 2006. This is his 3rd year on Staff with the Viking Regiment.

He currently teaches and designs for both Shafter & West HS.

Tony Cervantes

Drumline - Caption Head

Tony started his musical career in 2008, eventually graduating from Shafter HS in 2016. This is his 2nd year on Staff with the Viking Regiment, having been educating since 2017.

He currently teaches and designs for both Bakersfield & West HS.

Isabel

Drumline - PIT Tech

Isabel started her musical career in the 5th grade, eventually graduating from West High School in 2018. This is her second year on Staff with the Viking Regiment.

Hi, I'm the Front Ensemble coach, you can call me Issa or Isabel. Two things I love are chicken nuggets and the color orange!

Jase Westfall

Drumline - Battery Tech

Jase started his muscial career in the 4th grade on drumset and graduated from West High School in 2019. This is his first year on Staff with the Viking Regiment - having volunteered previous seasons.

Now he is dedicated to helping grow the Drumline program at his Alma Mater.
